Duration: 16 hours Introduction: This two-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to install and configure a Joomla driven website. It will focus on four main areas: installing, configuring, administering and theming. By the end of the course, the student will have installed and configured a Joomla website and be able to administer its categories and content. Audience: The primary audience for this course is IT Professionals wishing to further their knowledge in the Website creation field. At Course Completion: After completing this course, students will be able to: • Create domain names • Creating database and domain accounts in hosts. • Clean-install Joomla C.M.S. • Manage Categorization and Content • Manage Joomla Extensions • Configure user account security. • Create and Manage themes • Promoting their newly created Website Prerequisites: Before attending this course, students must have: • Familiarization with Internet Technologies. • Basic knowledge of HTML. • Understanding of FTP applications and web browser use. Course Outline: Module 1: Introduction to Content Management Systems and Joomla’s Open Source competition. This module server the purpose to educate students to all alternatives and not follow “blindfolded” just what they’ve learned. Lessons: • Introduction to Joomla CMS. • Explaining Drupal and Wordpress • Differences and Similarities • Swot Presentation(Strength, Weaknesses, Oportunities, Threats) for Open source CMS as a whole and each one individually. After completing this module, students will be able to: • Understand what Content management systems can do for them and their company. • Evaluate each project needs and use the best suited for the situation. Module 2: Domains and Hosting This module explains how to register our own domain name whether a .gr or .com and then being able to order and setup their site on a Dedicated or Shared host. Lessons: • Best Domain Registrars • Best Web hosts for Dedicated or Shared Hosting. • Explanation of the process from the domain purchase till the host rental. • Using CPanel to crate email addresses, databases and upload files. • Complete Installation of Joomla and Step-by-Step guide for the whole process. After completing this module, students will be able to: • Register their own domain names. • Choose the host that best fulfills their hosting needs. • Create databases and email addresses and • Setup Joomla on a Remote server. Module 3: Global settings, Content Management and Extension Explanation This module explains how to configure Joomla’s General Settings. Content and Extension Categorization and usage will be introduced in this module. Sections Categories Articles Components Modules Plugins Lessons • Editing Joomla’s Global Settings • Article Categorization and how to Effectively use it. • Extension Categorization and differences between Components, Modules and Plugins Lab: Configuring Post-Installation Options • Configuring Joomla’s Global Settings • Create Sections, Categories and Articles • Install Extensions and search Joomla.org for plugins that suit their needs. After completing this module, students will be able to: • Change the Joomla’s Global Settings • Understand Article Categorization and Extension usage • Search effectively and find the right Extension for their needs. Module 4: Using the article editor This module explains how to use WYSIWYG Editor in Joomla, upload pictures, videos and files to the posts. Lessons: • Basic Editor and it’s use • Turning on the advanced features of the editor. • Uploading and editing images • Uploading Video • Creating tables and advanced article editing features • General article settings After completing this module, students will be able to: • Use all the editor’s features to create articles and pages in Joomla as close to their Original idea as possible. • Upload All kinds of files to Joomla and display them. • Edit Article display settings. Module 5: Binding it all Together This module explains how to create a site from scratch, Create it’s categorization and articles, install Extensions and start displaying Content on the site in the positions we need to. Lessons: • Article Categorization • Plugin Installation • How-To Guide on positioning of Modules and Articles • Creation of forms and Polls After completing this module, students will be able to: • Understand the steps needed to create a site from scratch using the correct categorization and extensions. |
